  • NEVER AGAIN!!! - 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

We havent had this vehicle for very long and we have had to bring it to the shop 3 times for mechanical problems. This is by far the worst vehicle we have ever owned, and my family used to own a Ford L.T.D. The center console has broken on us twice, both sun visors had to be replaced, and the mirror fell off. Wed have been better off buying a used Yugo. At least we would have known what to expect. No wonder the C.E.O. jumped to his death from twelve stories.

  • Maintenance was clearly an afterthought! - 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

I purchased my Santa Fe new in 2003. Currently have about 69,000 miles on it. Several issues over the last year including, replacing alternator, gas regulator valve, gas return line. A/C cuts on/off going over bumps. Drivers side window is on its last legs. Rear bearings, emergency brake. While the initial purchase price was very good, you wind up paying for maintenance in the long term. Clearly Hyundai engineers did not take maintenance into consideration. Simple things like a spark plug change have to be brought to dealer because the process is very complex. Dealer quoted $520 for new PVC valve, plugs and wires. Currently, Im lucky if I average 12-13 mpg.

  • NOT GOOD - 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

I have had the vehicle for 1.5 years and had the transmission replaced once. Now I maybe looking at another new tranmission. Just got my oil changed and they informed me that I have metal scrapings in my transmission fluid. When I called the dealership, they said they are out of loaner cars and cannot get me in for 2 weeks. Very poor service! This thing has been in the shop for a good portion of my ownership. Maybe I got a lemon, but I would expect the dealership to go out of its way for me to rectify the situation. I am a young buyer and have many more vehicles to buy in the future. Sad to say but I will never buy another Hyundai!

  • hyundai is a fallacy - 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

Everything was ok for 3 yrs. At 4th yr mark, around 60,000 miles after your initial warranty kicks out, everything started falling apart. A timing belt $700.00. Lots of problems w/tires 1st yr owning car. Now in our 5th year, no more warranty, 71,000 miles & we are having Major problems. Was told it would cost $2800! Car is only worth $4000 - $5000 at this point. We have a 2007 sonata. Will never buy another Hyundai. They are not made when at all & that whole 100,000 warranty thing is a hoax. The car will not make it that far without costing you lots in repairs. We will buy a Toyota next time around.

  • 28K brakes and bad engine sensors - 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

I experienced 2 bad "Check Engine" sensors and the brakes wore out prematurely at only 28K miles. The 10/100000 warranty is fine, but my local dealers are sub par so I had to take the vehicle to dealers that are further from home. One of these other dealers recognized the sensor failures and fixed them and recognized the brake problems. I got after market brake pads from another company because I didnt trust the Hyundai brake pads. It lacks power with the 2.7 liter V6 engine. The cobalt-blue paint has a high chip rate.

  • Major repairs on used purchase - 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

I purchased this vehicle used a 1 1/2 yrs ago and had nothing but problems. Major cost to fix each problem. The front and rear catalytic converter had to be replaced as I could not get speed over 25 mph. On trip 2 hrs away from my home a month ago and the car just shut down on me. This past week belt which controls the a/c condenser and power steering just completely broke. Now I need a a/c condenser which is over $1000. NEVER will buy a Hyundai again.

  • Never again - 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

I will never buy another Hyundai Santa Fe. This car had multiple major problems, including timing belts replaced, transmission replaced, rear and front catalytic converters replaced, etc. The tires were replaced multiple times, as were the brakes. The driver window fell down into the door and needed fixing. This was definitely a high-maintenance car. My car wouldnt accelerate above 30 mph on a highway so I had to drive on the shoulder of the road while utilizing my flashers. I took it to the dealership, who apparently misdiagnosed the problem multiple times and had my car for 5-weeks without a loaner vehicle. The customer service dept. and service dept. were less-than-acceptable.
